Want an obedient dog? There are some commands it should know.

Every owner wants a calm, obedient and devoted dog. Obedient and well-trained dog is not likely to attack people or other dogs. Society requires obedient dog and it is your responsibility to teach your dog to obey.
If your dog is well-trained and obedient it will also make perfect family companion, especially if kids are around.

When you decide that your Bullmastiff needs training there are certain basic commands that must be mastered in order for a dog to be considered truly trained. These basic commands include:

  • Heel. Your dog must learn to walk beside you on a loose dog leash, neither pulling ahead nor lagging behind.
  • Right reaction to the word No. This word should be understood by a dog when it is still a puppy. If you exert all efforts to teach your dog to respond to this important word it will save you a ton of trouble.
  • Sit. It is also an important command your dog should master. Each training program includes this command.
  • Stay. Obedient dog should remain in the place its owner commands, stay is a very important command in dog training.
  • Down. A dog should lie down whenever its owners wants. It is more serious command than anyone may think. It is necessary to understand that it is not just a cute trick; it is a key component of any successful dog training program.
  • Off. It is a backbone for future successful training, especially when you train your pet not to chase people, cars, bikes, cats, etc.

Dog training is essential part of raising obedient, loyal, willing companion. When you train your dog you communicate with it, the bond between both of you strengthens. You should understand that a dog is a pack animal. Any pack requires a leader. You should teach your dog to recognise you as a leader. When you establish yourself as pack leader you are half way to success. Because there is only one leader in every pack of dogs. If you fail you will observe behavior problems which are very difficult to deal with.

If you are patient your dog will make progress in training and will respond properly to all the owner’s commands, and will not display anxiety, displeasure or confusion. You should create a good dog training program, if you lack experience you should ask help of professional trainers.

Your dog should have a job. It is more important than you may think. It is well-known fact that dogs were originally bred by humans to do important work. Many dogs today have no important job to do, they play all day long and this can often lead to boredom and neurotic behavior.

Obedience training, and constant training sessions, provide the dog with an important job to do. This job is a great way for such dog breed as Bullmastiff to use up its extra energy and simply to enjoy itself.
